In brief: Need good exam

Images from MRI/CT are usually static (meaning you lying there in one position)- you are describing a dynamic problem- clicking and pain with motion.
Most of the time, this is a ligament/soft tissue phenomenon that a good physical exam can assess; dynamic imaging like motion xrays, can also assess. MSK ultrasound may be helpful but often more difficult with the neck (very helpful with shoulders)
