In most cases, expired medications have lost some of its potency so it becomes less effective if one were to take it.
It is not advisable as it is difficult to determine how much potency has been lost. One class of medications should never be taken expired: tetracycline antibiotics. Expired tetracycline can be harmful to one's liver.
