Many types of throat infections can have sores in the mouth/tongue.
Viral illnesses may be the most common. strep certainly can causes sores in the throat but patients with that infection are usually more ill with high fevers. Another possibility would by a yeast (thrush) infection which would be treated differently then other infections. Throat culture may be indicated. Seek a medical provider
