Gyn cytology report reads "rare hyperchromatic groups of atypical cells". Does rare in this case mean "few" or a rare group i.e. a rare cancer?

1 doctor agrees

In brief: It means few

and it is just atypical cells, not cancer.
Not to worry! But ask your gyn for his/her opinion. Good luck.

I believe it means few

Would add "less than few". Hard to put a number on it without consulting the pathologist.

In brief: "few"

Even though the atypical cell groups are few it will need followup.
Talk to your physician that did your pap for a thorough explanation and schedule followup.
