In brief: Use common sense

What was the injury? Impact/load or twisting injury? Did it swell right away, could you walk on it? If have a joint effusion wouln't play.
See a good local performance physical therapist for guidance.

In brief: Sit out if possible

If your knee is getting better, but still sore and difficult to bend, you may need to sit this one out.
The difficulty being that because you cannot fully use your knee as normal, you have an increased risk for further damage because a protective gait or limp or focusing on an injured limb, makes one not able to play normally. If your knee is not getting better you need an orthopaedic evaluation.

While trying to protect the injured leg and not using it, you may also over use the good leg and cause an injury to that one too.

In brief: Best to sit it out..

Hi, sorry but the advice has to be to sit it out and wait.
Unfortunately playing soccer with an injured knee just puts you at higher risk of further injury and therefore being out of action for longer or worse still having something go seriously wrong. If you can't help but get stuck in make sure you wear a knee brace and be careful!
