What does it mean when I have severe stomach cramps and diarrhea every morning? Once I go to the bathroom i'm fine. I had gastric bypass 4 mo ago.

In brief: "Dumping Syndrome"
The symptoms you describe are called "dumping syndrome" and this is common after a gastric bypass and is something that should have been discussed with you by your surgeon prior to your surgery.
Please make sure you follow up with your surgeon for appropriate steps you can take to minimize symptoms.

One should also think of Bile Salt Induced diarrhea and an bedtime dose of cholestyramine (bile acid resin) might work well for you . You should discuss this with your surgeon and/or gastroenterologist.

In brief: Dumping syndrome
One of the most common adverse effects for gastric bypass (i presume it was not a simpler banding procedure) is rapid transit of food through the small, then large intestine, leading to abdominal cramps/diarrhea.
The pattern of moving bowels regularly first thing in morning, especially after coffee, is common. But after bypass, anatomical and physiological changes occur. Must be followed by doc.

This is a common and long term side effect of By-Pass surgery. Consult the surgeon that performed this procedure for help in supplementing the vitamin and mineral deficits you may be developing. This is important and may be life long following this "Surgery"

Reworked plumbing changes things.
Simple sugars may empty rapidly into small bowel, cause water to pool in (to dilute things), lead to cramps and diarrhea. Cramps, etc before or after eating? Bile gets reworked as well and can cause diarrhea. Tell your doc, get examined.
