In brief: Sinus or migraine

The vast majority of patients i see with "bad sinus headaches" in reality have migraine or tmj.
It is important to see an ENT doctor to eliminate sinus from being a possibility. In general if a headache is so bad you have to lay down and light and sound bothers you it is most likely not sinus but a migraine.

In brief: See ENT

Let ENT specialist figure out for severe headache.
Usually sinusitis does not give severe headache unless there are other possibilities.

If it really is a sinus headache treatment with otc antihistamines and decongestants plus nasal steroids will likely help.

In brief: See your doctor

Sinus disease can cause headaches.
Most headaches not serious. However, first your doctor will determine what type of headache you have. Headaches have many causes i suggest you see your physician and discuss a plan to determine the cause. Your doctor might order imaging of brain and optic nerve exam to rule out serious conditions.
