Contribute? Congratulations for stopping substance abuse! i'm unclear whether you're asking if taking prescribed Ritalin (methylphenidate) contributes to your anxiety ; depression, or whether starting Ritalin (methylphenidate) would help. Either way, "overthinking" is not a reason to take any drug, including ritalin (methylphenidate). While Ritalin (methylphenidate) may still be useful for diagnosed adhd, you ; your brain need to adjust without drugs. Good luck. Read more...

What is stimulant psychosis? Can occur on meds like Adderall and Ritalin (methylphenidate)? Also is it rare? Temporary?

Can you overcome MPH tachyphylaxis by switching from Ritalin (methylphenidate) to Adderall? Or to another stimulant medication?

Yes. Based on the pharmacodynamics leading to tachyphylaxis, research into delivery options has found that fine tuning the method of delivery decreases the risk for tachyphylaxis. One formulation that has been consistently superior is Concerta. Some of the generic preparations do not accurately replicate the release dynamics of he brand name so I suggest starting with it. There are also many more optionsask your doctor. Read more...

Should stimulants such as ritalin (methylphenidate) and adderal should be used to treat sleeping disorders?

For some. They can be used to treat narcolepsy and residual symptoms of sleep apnea (after CPAP or other treatments have been optimized). Only a sleep study can accurately diagnose these conditions and use of stimulants prior to the test can interfer with making a diagnosis. Read more...

Interaction between Aripiprazole (@low dose) with Methylphenidate (antipsychotic &stimulant) in Treatment-resistant atypical depression?

Talk to your doctor. If both of these medications are being prescribed for you, you should speak to the doctor who is prescribing them. Of course you should only take these medications if they are being prescribed for you; don't try someone else's medication. Read more...
No. There is not an interaction in the sense that the presence of one drug will cause increased amounts of the other or is more likely to increase certain other side effects. Both have the potential to make people feel restless or anxious, though, as if they have to move around a lot, Read more...

Actually I am now on la ritalin and its worse than short acting. No improvement after a month. I've had general and social anxiety since I was 12 (it comes and goes) and no anxiety, depression medication nor behavioral therapy ever helped.

Learning disorder? . The most common form of add is one that combines inattention, ld and anxiety in one package. Since you have a history of anxiety disorder, & apparently add, then you most likely have the third as well. Check with your doctor about having that investigated. Also be sure you don't use caffeine chocolate or energy drinks as they will worsen anxiety symptoms & make add meds less effective. Read more...
Anxiety/ADD. Might want to discuss with your prescribing doctor other alternative medications for add/anxiety since long-acting Ritalin is not as effective. There are alternatives such as wellbutrin, (bupropion) clonidine, remeron, or combination of such. Read more...

Short-acting Ritalin (methylphenidate) works 20-60 min. after a dose, peaks at 1-2 hours & wears off in 3-4 hours. Irritability & anxiety are either side effects or rebound effects as dose wears off. Multiple daily doses must be taken 30 minutes before the prior dose wears off. Long- acting stimulants or non-stimulants that last 24/7 after 4-6 wks. are preferable, even for ADHD-Primarily Inattentive Type. Talk to your psychiatrist. Read more...
