In brief: Type 1 and 2

In diabetes the body cannot keep blood glucose (sugar) levels in the normal range, and if glucose is too high it can damage your body over time.
Either the body doesn’t produce enough insulin (mainly type 1 and usually children) or the cells in the body don’t recognize the insulin that is present (Type 2). Type 2 diabetes is prevented and managed by making healthy food choices and staying active.
