What type of itch is typically associated with liver disease? Is it a deep itch or more of an ants crawling on your skin itch? Thanks.

Pruritus/Cholestasis. The liver has hepatocytes that elaborate bile into cannaliculi. Bile passageways coalesce into the common bile duct. When liver disease is present, flow of bile is interrupted and itching presents because of the buildup of toxic bile substances. Studies show this pruritus or itching affects the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet, but can be generalized as well. Varied intensity/duration.
