Will obgyn test for cotinine or nicotine in routine urine samples?

No. These tests will be done only with your knowledge and consent as part of a monitoring process.
Ask provider. Cotinine/ Nicotine has to be specifically ordered. It is not part of a standard urinalysis test.
Urine test. Your urine may be tested for red blood cells (to see if you have urinary tract disease), white blood cells (to see if you have a urinary tract infection), and glucose (high levels may be a sign of diabetes mellitus). The amount of protein also is measured. High protein levels in the urine may be a sign of preeclampsia, a serious complication that usually occurs later in pregnancy or after birth.
