My father experience paroxysmal dry cough he take betaloc 50 amlodipine and cordarone (amiodarone) 200mg for Afib what is the cause of cough and treatment please?

Cough cause. You do not mention it but your dad may be on an ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme) inhibitor for high blood pressure. A well known side effect of that class of drugs is cough. It usually diminishes with time but if it is too much for him his doc can stop the med and manage his B/P with other medicine. .

What is your opinion about drug (moxonidil0.2)for hypertensive 72male with paroxysmal Afib on betaloc amlodipine and cordarone (amiodarone) the doc put him on it?

Hypertension. In my opinion there are better choices than minoxidil such as a diuretic like hydrochlorothiazide, or an ace inhibitor like lisinopril or an arb like cozaar (losartan) or avapro. Of course his physician or cardiologist, who knows his condition and laboratory values, is better qualified to recommend treatment. Read more...

My father had dry cough after flu episode he also took cordarone (amiodarone) 200 is this cough due to cordarone (amiodarone) what is the treatment for it?

Post-viral. Sometimes a cough may linger for weeks after flu or a viral infection but one needs to rule out infection-triggered asthma or a sinus infection also. Cordarone (amiodarone) is not expected to cause a cough but if it does , changing to another drug would be the only treatment. Read more...

What is the usual maintenance dose of cordarone (amiodarone) and the duration in case of paroxysmal Afib esp if betaloc 50 is taken together and Pr (49-60)?

Not my first choice. Amiodarone is a a potentially toxic drug which I would avoid in young people for a prolonged period of time. There are other options like propafenone, FLECAINADE , and if one must, sotalol, dofetalide. Ablation therapy is also an option. If however amiodarone is the only choice, then I would give a loading dose of 9 g over 10-14 days. 200 to 400 mg twice a day for 10 to 14 days. This would be followed by a maintenance does off 200 mg once a day. Read more...

What is the maintenance dose of cordarone (amiodarone) in paroxysmal Afib my father take 75mg metoprolol and cordarone (amiodarone) 300, especially to avoid side effects?

Amiodarone. This is a great drug with great potential for toxicity;so the lowest effective dose, varies between individuals, should be used.I have seen it effective as low as 100 mg every other day in a rare ndividual;levels can be checked to exclude excess build up in the blood. Read more...

Stroke risk. Most importantly, he should probably be on a different blood thinner. Aspirin+plavix has not been shown to provide adequate stroke risk reduction. Apart from this options include possible left atrial ablation vs. AV node ablation and pacing. Read more...
