Occipital neuralgia. H/A in the back of your head about 1.5" off of the midline are called occipital neuralgia. Greater occipital nerve is inflamed and causing the pain typically. Underlying cause, however, is likely to be a problem with upper cervical discs. With "painkillers" not helping, have you have been seen by a headache specialist, rule out other problems.
