In brief: Possibly serious

This is a concerning symptom which could indicate something serious like heart failure.
There are other less serious problems like sleep apnea but i would definitely recommend seeing your doctor to find out more.

In brief: Sleep Apnea

Sounds like it's time for a sleep study! sleep apnea is a common cause of persistent awakening throughout the night / when sleeping.
The most common type of sleep apnea is obstructive sleep apnea. This most often means that the airway has collapsed or is blocked during sleep. The blockage may cause shallow breathing or breathing pauses.

Sleep apnea is accompanied by snoring, not wheezing. Feeling short of breath and wheezing while lying down are often signs of more serious medical problems. Please talk to your doctor about your symptoms.
