Why does my baby have urate crystals in her diaper?

In brief: OK unless dehydrated
These crystals are a combination of elements that are normally in the urine, calcium and urate, causing a red/orange stain/crystal formation in the diaper.
These are normal and should resolve on their own. If there is any ongoing feeding problem with your baby or if she is not making several wet diapers a day, see her pediatrician.

Pediatrics
In brief: She needs more milk
Urate crystals are very common in newborns.
They tend to look like reddish/orange fine crystals in the diaper and may even look like blood. They are a sign of decreased hydration in newborns. Your baby probably needs to just drink more milk. Be sure you are drinking lots of water, put her on the breast more often to increase her intake. If she is bottle fed, offer more bottles & that should do it.
