Depends. You may have a more significant case of seborrheic dermatitis, which could be driving the "dandruff" that you notice. Be aware, it could even be psoriasis of the scalp too!. The pain is a bit worrisome for some type of inflammation of the scalp as seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis aren't usually painful unless and infection is complicating things.
