My urine dips always show 1+ or moderate blood in urine, but usually no RBC. What could be the cause of frequesnt blood in urine with no RBC?

In brief: Who tests?

Are you testing your own urine or is it done by a professional? Why? Hemolysed blood tests pos for hemoglobin but not for red cells.
There are various ways this can happen. WHAT DOES YOUR DR SAY???

Thanks so much , Dr. D. I learn most from other HT docs. answering ?s after I have a crack at it. Here is a nice discussion on dipsticks and how they aren't worth much: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/445638

In brief: Probably ok

Many women how persistent low-level hematuria.
Of course, one cannot exclude an evolving/progressing condition when initially encountered. Persistent monitoring of urine dipstick is suggested, until satisfied that hematuria is a mild stable chronic finding..

Very true Dr. L., common esp. w/ women of childbearing age. New onset of true (microscopically positive) hematuria in older folks is more likely serious and often renal origin. Esp. if there is also protein in urine.

Dipsticks are for screening only.
Urine should be checked under a microscope. Dipsticks can be fooled by other chemicals in urine. Myoglobin from muscles for example.
