In brief: Too many to list

The sensation of shortness of breath can be caused by cardiac, vascular and/or pulmonary problems including things like asthma, lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, cardiac ischemia, obesity, valvular heart disease, congestive heart failure, essential hypertension.
If you exercise tolerance is progressively deteriorating, see your physician.

asthma is up there on the list - but also endurance - if you are just starting exercise - you may breathe heavier - but if this is getting worse or limiting you in any way - STOP and see MD before repeating...

In brief: Uncertain.

Great response by Dr. Hahn.
At age 75 years, the differential diagnosis is long. Two common issues can be reactive airway disease or being deconditioned. The only way to figure this one out is an in-person medical evaluation.
