What do you think of the combination of celebrex (celecoxib) and sulfasalazine to treat RA beside taking other medications such as methotrexate and Enbrel? Instead of Norco or motrin or tramadol

Depends on severity. It depends on the severity and activity of your RA. Enbrel and Methotrexate are great drugs if you have active. If it is not active Celebrex (celecoxib) and sulfasalazine are alternatives. We discourage people to use narcotic painkillers for non cancer pain for the long term since it is very addictive and people become tolerant for the doses and expect increasing doses.
Common combo. However, if you receive sulfasalazine you should have blood count and liver function tests before starting treatment and every 1 to 2 weeks during the first 3 months of therapy. Ask your rheumatologist for more information.
Rheumatoid arthritis. Celebrex (celecoxib) and motrin are anti-inflammatory medication. Motrin cause stomach irritation more than Celebrex (celecoxib), sulfasalazine another anti inflammatory by different mechanism. Norco and tramadol does not have any anti inflammatory effect. the combinations are chosen for every individual depending on their bodies response to meds.

Sounds right. Severe RA requires serious medications. I do not see any drug-drug problems. But individually these meds require monitoring and an awareness of what can go wrong. You absolutely must review your concerns with your doc who is paid to educate you about the risks and benefits of treatment and making an informed decision about your care. Read more...
