Been on 20 mg of Prozac (fluoxetine) for 6 months for mild depression and anxiety feeling better is it to soon to taper off?

Might be fine! But, Always work w/ the Dr on the taper. They can be sure you are not running into w/drawal problems. You are wise to keep use short term if things have improved. I would urge CBT therapy to avoid problems returning via skills and mgmt. Good for you! Read more...

Suffering from mild depression doctor prescribed fluoxetine, took it and my headaches are gone stopped taking it for its side effects is that wrong?

Neither wrong/right. but of concern if you haven't spoken with the prescriber. All medications may have side effects, and some of them can be minimized, or will decrease over time. Prozac, for example, is stimulating and if taken late in the day can cause insomnia, but this is usually not a problem if taken first thing in the morning. For mild depression, psychotherapy can work well. Please talk to your physician. Read more...

I have insomnia and mild depression. I was just prescribed. 5 Klonopin and 10mg Elavil at bed time for sleep and 20 MG Prozac in the morning. My question is, since they are all 3 antidepr. Would you suggest I try Klonopin and Elavil first or all 3?

Ok to ask. Prozac (fluoxetine) and Elavil are definitely used for mood and have other uses as well, that may be helpful in your case, such as Elavil at night to help you sleep. Klonopin is not an antidepressant but a benzodiazepine, most commonly used for anxiety, but again has other uses. If you have any concerns about using all three medications, it's always best to meet with the prescribing doctor for clarification. Read more...
Not Quite. The Prozac (fluoxetine) (SSRI) & Elavil (Tricyclic) are antidepressants & the Klonopin (Benzodiazepine) is a pure sedative/hypnotic/anti-anxiety med. The Elavil and Klonopin are being prescribed for sleep. The Elavil is at a very low dose, for sleep with hopes of reducing your need for Klonopin a drug with addiction & abuse potential. The most important med is the Prozac (fluoxetine), but may take some time to work. Read more...
Insomnia. I understand your need to have good sleep. None of these 3 medications are specific for insomnia. Using Klonopin with Prozac (fluoxetine) may increase dizziness, some impairment in thinking and judgment. Using Elavil with Klonopin may add to dizziness, drowsiness, breathing problems. Your insomnia is likely due to stress causing anxiety and mild depression. See Psychiatrist for Therapy ,Medication, Relaxation. Read more...
It depends upon. upon several factors, and without knowing more about you it’s hard to say. You may wish to speak to your prescriber and ask these specific questions. Prozac and Elavil are different types of antidepressants, and Klonopin (clonazepam) is a benzodiazepine; none of them are specifically for insomnia, but may cause sedation which may be why you were instructed to take them at night. Good luck! Read more...
Discuss with ur M.D. There are many different combinations that can be used for the problem you describe and doctors have different approaches. Klonopin is anxiety med not antidepressant. Your doctor seems to be mainly using Elavil to help sleep. The 20 mg dosage of Prozac is the main antidepressant in your combo. It is always a good idea to discuss the medications with your doctor so you understand the "game plan." Read more...

Would there be any efficacy in taking 10 mg of Prozac (fluoxetine) for anxiety/depression I am extremely sensitive to all medications/antidepressants?

Possibly. Usual starting dose is 20 mg but it is not unreasonable to try a 10 mg dose. Usually want to give it 3 to 5, even potentially six weeks if you're tolerating it okay. Read more...
Low dose Prozac (fluoxetine) . If still symptomatic and if normally medication sensitive it's reasonable to start at a low dose with the goal of titrating slowly to a standard therapeutic treating dose to get optimal results. Some even use alternating dose days. For example 10-20-10-20. If unable to tolerate would consider alternative medication or an adjunct to the Prozac (fluoxetine) . Read more...

I am 65 yr old female would taking 20 mg of Prozac (fluoxetine) every other day be beneficial for depression and anxiety?

Why every other day? Prozac (fluoxetine), (fluoxetine) along with other antidepressant medications, are dosed either daily or twice daily, depending on the medication. Prozac (fluoxetine) is designed to be dosed once a day, and is recommended it be taken that way. Also, it would be much easier to remember to take it daily. There is a formulation of Prozac (fluoxetine) that is taken once a week, called Prozac (fluoxetine) Weekly. Hope this information is helpful. All the best. Read more...

I take 40 mg of Prozac (fluoxetine) a day for anxiety and depression is it ok to take a bendryl because I don't sleep at night.

Drug interactions. I would discuss this with your prescribing doctor or pharmacist. Using diphenhydramine with fluoxetine could ^ side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, or v concentration. However,if you are going to bed after taking it, that shouldn't present a problem. Don't mix with alcohol. Read more...

Yes. Unfortunately, it usually takes 2+ weeks for the good effects of antidepressants to start, while side-effects can happen right away. Prozac (fluoxetine) is a relatively activating or stimulating antidepressant. It can worsen anxiety, especially at first. (in fact, if anxiety was a major problem, i might choose a different ssri in the first place.) the prescribing doc should help with any side effects. Read more...
