In brief: Not uncommon

Rib pain is really common in pregnancy.
There are couple of causes. Late in pregnancy the ribs are pushed on by the growing uterus and baby. Earlier though the rib start to spread from a hormone called relaxin. It causes the little joints between the ribs to soften and spread. That is not particularly comfortable. If the pain is really intense, talk to your doctor to make sure.
