In brief: Insulin

Type 1, aka: "juvenile " occurs when pancreas stops making Insulin altogether, and onset usually is in childhood/teens.
They are dependent on Insulin administration. Type 2, or adult onset usually starts as increased resistance to the body's insulin, often from increased body fat. Can use meds to improve situation unless Insulin production fails. # of 2s outnumber 1s in us.

In brief: Insulin

Type 1 diabetes indicates destruction of the cells that make Insulin whereas type 2 is unresponsiveness of Insulin receptors.
Type 1 always requires Insulin replacement, while type 2 may be treated with other drugs to lower the sugar. Insulin may be needed in t2, but not always. Type 1 is more common in younger and type 2 predominates in older persons, though type 2 does occur in children today.

In brief: Diabetes

Simplistically type 1 has no Insulin in the body, type 2 doesn't have enough Insulin to overcome the resistance of the body due to obesity.
We used to say type 1 was juvenile & only occured in people less than 40 yo and was always on insulin. Because of childhood obesity, type 2 diabetes-known in the past as adult onset- is on the rise. This usually is controlled with pills and diet, .

In brief: Abcense vs deafness

Type 1 is deficiency of the Insulin production, in type 2 the Insulin is in abundance, but cells are insensitive or resistant to it (deaf).

In brief: Difference

The symptoms are not the issue but the cause is .
Type 1 is a lack of insulin. You get ill right away with symptoms of increased appetite, thirst, urination and weight loss. You need Insulin to be replaced. Type 2 is a state of Insulin resistance. These symptoms take much longer to present . Insulin is present but the tissues do not respond as well. This can be handled with oral medication

In brief: Type1 vs type 2

Type 1 is usually discovered when young.
Decrease in Insulin production and requires Insulin to treat. Type 2 is DX later in life and is an issue with Insulin sensitivity. Oral meds are tried before Insulin and weight loss and exercise are very helpful as well.

In brief: Type 1&2 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is a disorder in which the body does not produce Insulin (a hormone that aids in moving sugar from the blood to the cells).
This type of diabetes can be due to a virus or autoimmune disorder in which the body does not recognize an organ as its own and attacks it. Type 2 diabetes occurs when Insulin that the body produces is less efficient at moving sugar out of the bloodstream.

Dm i called juvenile and Insulin dependent due to lack of production.
D m ii or adult onset is non- Insulin dependent, Insulin secretion is inadequate and responds to oral anti- hyperglycemic rx.

In brief: Insulin levels

Type -1 diabetes implies that your pancreas gland has stopped making enough Insulin due to injury(trauma, virus, toxins, autoimmune).
Type-2 diabetes is usually related to Insulin resistance( there is usually higher than normal levels of Insulin , atleast in the begining) , and more commonly assoc with obesity.

In brief: Pancreatic failure

Type 1 diabetes mellitus is due to pancreatic failure in which the pancreas no longer produces any Insulin (which is required to move glucose (sugar) from blood stream into cells).
Type 2 dm is due to inability of pancreas to produce enough insulin. We refer to this state as Insulin resistance which is associated w/obesity. T1dm needs Insulin daily. T2dm can get by w/pills & eating right + exercis.
