I have a sharp pain in my throat I think it's a sore throat I'm not sure the pain comes and goes but it hurts swallow and is swollen, what could it be?

Sore Throat. Could be from a viral illness, post nasal drip, allergies it bacterial illness. Not all sore throats, in fact most of them, don really need antibiotics. Try salt water gargles, tylenol (acetaminophen) as needed for pain, zinc lozenges and increased fluids for the next few days. No X-Ray. For a chronic sore throat, the most important thing is to have a detailed history and physical exam with an otolaryngologist. This also will include a fiber-optic laryngoscopy to look down your throat and help determine the source of your problem. Imaging like x-rays are of little use.
