I am 6 months postpartum. When I sit up I feel the muscles of the right side of my abdomen tighten up. Sometimes this is painful. What may cause this?

In brief: Muscle pain

You may have pulled your abdominal(core) muscles.
This is very common with an infant. Especially if you use that side of your body to lift and hold the baby. I recommend alternating sides when holding the baby, diaper bag, car seat. Be extra mindful when lifting out of the crib or the car.
