Why would my gastro doc discourage Nissen procedure when I have chronic gerd? I do not have Barrett's, but am concerned about that progression. I reflux constantly. Is aciphex (rabeprazole) enough to keep esophagus healed?

YOUR DOC IS RIGHT. your doctor is right. Surgery should never be taking lightly. Medication can take care of GERD 90-95% of the cases ,yes aciphex (rabeprazole) can do the job. surgery for GERD is indicated if there is a risk of cancer failure of medical treatment. potential life time use of medication. complication associated with reflux like aspiration that can cause pneumonia, chronic cough.
