In brief: Various ways
Thrush (overgrowth of candida) can result from a number of situations.
Resolving the underlying 'situation' often cures the thrush. Thrush may result from medications (antibiotics, steroids, chemotherapy or other immune suppressing medicine) or a weak immune system (uncontrolled diabetes, hiv/aids, cancer, advanced age).Your doctor may prescribe nystatin, Clotrimazole or Fluconazole to cure thrush.

For infants you can also use baking soda..1 tsp in 1 cup of water and swab the mouth 5 times a day. Pay attention to the 1 TSP baking soda in 1 CUP water as more is NOT better. Baking soda breaks up the cell wall membranes of thrush. If this does not work then the other meds mentioned can be helpful.

In brief: Antifungal
Nystatin is most common treatment.
Other treatment options are Diflucan (fluconazole) and gentian violet.
