I have ulcerative colitis and medication isn't working. Is there anything else I can do to feel better?

In brief: See a surgeon

If you are not responding to medication you may want to consider seeing a colorectal surgeon to discuss colectomy.
Removal of the colon is curative in ulcerative colitis. It is however major surgery, and should be discussed at length with an experienced colorectal surgeon.

In brief: Several options

There are several medications that are effective in treating ulcerative colitis, including a class of medications known as immune modulators like humira (adalimumab).
Of course, a partial or total colectomy is a surgical procedure of last resort. Consult with your gastroenterologist to see what options you have.

In brief: See your GI

This is a very hard question to answer on a website.
This requires blood tests, probably a repeat colonoscopy, and careful consideration with your GI doctor. Only he/she will be able to give you a complete picture of what your options are.
