In brief: Time and technique

If you did the test correctly at one week after missed period and it was negative, you are unlikely to be pregnant.
You may wish to repeat the test in 4-5 days, use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully. Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD.
