I often get dull pain behind sternum (slightly right). No other symptoms. GP diagnosed Esophagitis twice, is this likely correct?

In brief: Hard to say

Esophagitis (GERD) is very common, and if you get relief from antacids, it is likely true.
Inflammation of the cartilages can sometimes cause a siilar pain, and then antacids won't help. Ibuprofen will make GERD much worse, but makes the pain of cartilage inflammatoin better. (costochondritis)
