In brief: Doctor can evaluate

The left upper abdomen includes many things, so a primary care doctor can evaluate to see what sort of discomfort is there.
Some problems can be in the skin, the muscle, or a rib. Deeper inside are the stomach, spleen, part of the intestine, part of the pancreas, etc... A thorough exam at the doctor's office should be very helpful.

In brief: Musculoskeletal....

The pain you describe is likely musculoskeletal.
There are many muscles, tendons, cartilage, bone, etc. in the area you are describing. Rest and use either heat or ice to the area, whichever feels better. You can use acetaminophen for the discomfort if needed. If it is not improving over the next few days, then see your family doctor. Good luck!!!
