I was just prescribed Amitriptyline for aiding sleep and was wondering what the difference is from Ambien (zolpidem) which I used to be prescribed.

In brief: New medicine

This medicine works differently than ambien (zolpidem).
For that reason, it may work better or worse for you. It can cause you to feel sleepy. It can also cause a feeling of a dry mouth or light headedness. It is used often in Neurology to prevent headaches or for nerve pain also.
