When is best to take a pregnancy test, before your period or after your period? For a more accurate result

After Missed Period. Home pregnancy tests can show positive as early as 3-4 days after implantation. Implantation generally occurs 6-12 days after ovulation. So if the egg was fertilized right at ovulation and you used the most sensitive home test it could be positive at 9 days. On average it is 13-14 days after fertilization/ovulation when it is positive. We generally recommend you test after missed period with am pee.
Blood test for HCG. Is more sensitive than urine tests. Conception, as defined by the generation of a fertilized ovum, occurs within day or so of the sex. However, it takes about two weeks for the embryo to make enough HCG to produce a positive pregnancy test. Blood test may be done a day after a missed period. Home pregnancy tests should be done 4-5 days after the missed period. If the result is negative repeat the test in 4-5 days. Use first morning urine and follow instructions for the test carefully. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time, every time. You may consider implanted contraceptive, or IUD. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine.
Timing. Either is fine. First urination in the AM is best though.
