When should you go to emergency room for high blood pressure? I have a reading of 170/100 right now.

In brief: Blood pressure

If you had headache, dizziness or shortness of breath or chest pain with BP 170/100 going to the ER is appropriate.
If no symptoms, then ER is usually not needed

In brief: How do you feel

Before going to over crowded ER ( mostly due to need less visits burden the over already worked E R staff who do not take care of themselves with preventive measures ) Call your doctor first , if unavailable , yes you need urgent help to bring it down & avoid complications , then follow up with your medications
