Is it safe to switch from Tranxene 5Mg taken for 4 months to Xanax (alprazolam)?

Nothing is safe when. 'transferring' from one anti anxiety medication to another. You can't do it without a narcotic prescription from your doctor or psychiatrist. So if your Tranxene (clorazepate) isn't working, call your doctor and take their recommendation first. You may need to be seen for a consult, before anything is switched. May be better to deal with the cause of your anxiety as a better alternative. Good luck!

Clarification. Just to clarify - It sounds like you are only taking the Klonopin (clonazepam) currently? You can titrate off of Klonopin (clonazepam) by decreasing dose to 0.25 mg every 12 hours x 7 days then 0.25 mg. at night only x 5 days, then discontinue. This method works very well for my pts. and avoids the unpleasant side effects. You can be more aggressive, but I find greater success occurs with the slow method. Hope that helps! Read more...
