In brief: Lifestyle

The mainstay of pcos treatment is aerobic exercise and weight loss.
Metformin has been part of the regimen for over a decade and helps some. This is a very common situation that is of widely variable severity. Good luck.

Strength training builds muscle mass which is the most effective way to deal with insulin resistance. An increase in muscle also increases basal metabolism. Aerobics well burn fat in the muscle but after 20 or 30 minutes you start to break down muscle and you burn fewer calories.

In brief: Hirsutism

No question that lifestyle intervention for weight loss and fitness helps.
There are many adolescent girls and women who may also suffer from excessive hair growth to face, chest, belly, and lower back. Oral contraceptive agents +/- spironolactone may be used in select patients who have hirsutism. Your doctor can help determine this.
