I read that statins may cause diabetes in some folks? So if a pt's.able to safely stop statins, is there a chance their blood sugar could drop?

In brief: Statins

A high cholesterol level should be cared for with statins.
If you do not have diabetes you need to carefully control your cholesterol to a point that the level is normal. If you don't you might develop diabetes. You don't want that!

The benefit of statins for high cholesterol out weighs the small chance it will worsen blood sugars. The difference without a statin is minor.
