In brief: Should be seen
Sever pain in any part of the body is concerning and should be checked out.
Pain on the temporal area can come from an ear infection, a problem with your TMJ joint, or even be from inflammation of your arteries that can lead to loss of your vision. Patient should not delay being seen by either their primary md or and ent.

In brief: Think jaw joint
Often, patients report "ear pain" when in fact the source of the pain may be the temporomandibular joint, which is immediately adjacent to the ear. If pressure over the jaw joint and above it causes discomfort, you likely have TMJ arthralgia.
Make sure you don't grind your teeth at night, no chewing gum or hard foods, and consider Ibuprofen if it is safe for you to use, if you think you have tmj.
