Surgical wound. Your surgeon should be giving you very clear instructions on the care of this wound.
Wound Care. Assuming the cyst was removed and the skin was sutured closed, i would recommend twice daily cleansing, and application of a topical antibiotic ointment. A bandage is helpful for areas that are exposed or rub on clothing.
Follow doctors rec. There are different ways to treat the wound left after removal of a sebaceous cyst. Recommendations are dependent on how and if the wound was closed. I would follow the advice of the doctor who treated the cyst for you. This doc is in the best position to know.
Simple Care. The real question is what not to do that slows down healing. Avoid using alcohol, peroxide, hibiclens, betadine, and bleach solutions. Inflammation ( red, hot, swollen, tender) is important to healing so anti-inflammatories (motrin, advil) are bad. Cover the area with a clean dressing changed every other day and protected from trauma. Antibiotics do not help healing unless it is truly infected.
Simple. Call the doctor and ask him what needs to be done.
