In brief: It depends

It depends where the involved valve is located (right sided are less of a problem compared to left sided), and the severity of leakage (severe regurgitation can lead to symptoms and decrease the heart function which can lead to shorten survival).

In brief: Depends

Leaky heart valves are extremely common.
As soon as echocardiogram is done some leaking can be identiwdnin one or more of the heart valves. Leaking is rated from 0-4 and 4 is deemed severe. Those that have 4/4 leaking and symptoms are often recommended surgery for repair or replacement. Some people with 0-3/4 leaking never need surgery.
