In brief: Look for a cause 1st

There can be medical, medication, dental or emotional reasons for chewing your gums.
What medications are you taking? Antipsychotic & mood stabilizing meds as well as some antidepressants can be reasons. Gum disease, dental plates or unerupted wisdom teeth also factor in. Anxiety may be the issue &, yes, it can be simply a tic disorder. Each require specific help from professionals. Seek them out.

In brief: Chewing tic

I would want to first know if you are already on a medication which may be contributing to your problem. If not, then i guess chewing gum would be an option.
I suppose you have already tried that. Good luck.
