In brief: Cold mist helps

Croup it is caused by different kind of viruses.
The symptoms varie from hoarse voice to a more severe form with fever and stridor, an inspiratory noise due to the swelling of the airway. Cold mist(with or without oxygen) can help, but for the more severe cases children might require racemic epinephrine nebulization and steroids.

cool and warm mist vaporizer can also help, humidifiers as well, antibiotics rarely helps. if breathing is very severe, admit the patient to the hospital to get inhaled epinephrine to reduce oral swelling.
