Noticed a bruise next to shin and swelling around it. Is this just a bruise or could be a blood clot?

In brief: Not a blood clot

Blood clots (the BAD deep venous kind) occur behind the tibia or shin bone within the deep vasculature.
Your bruising is more likely due to more direct type trauma with expected local swelling. The hematoma can take several weeks to resolve. a protective wrap may be all that is needed to avoid recurrent injury to the tender area. If pain persists longer than that, orthopaedic evaluation is needed.
