Is surgery necessary to fix a ruptured bursa sac in shoulder? Pain is intense and widespread. Has recently gotten worse. Possible rotator cuff injury?

In brief: Rupture bursa

First try PT and if no improvement see an orthopedist.
MRI and or arthrogram of shoulder can be done.

In brief: Bursitis in the--

--the shoulder can be painful but if it ruptures you should have initially immediate relief as the pressure is released.
Rotator cuff disease is a different animal. Need orthopedic hands on exam & imaging. Bursitis responds to injections, while cuff disease needs evaluation of the entire shoulder. Get in to see a fellowship trained sports medicine orthopedic surgeon.
