In brief: Thyroid and mood

Hyperthyroidism often causes anxiety.
Hypothyroidism can lead to several psychiatric problems, most commonly depression. There can also be cognitive (thinking) impairment, and in severe (and rare) cases, psychosis. Correcting the thyroid imbalance usually corrects the changes in mood and thinking.
