In brief: Usually not
It may be due to anything from acid refluxing from your stomach while you sleep to allergies to an early, easy-to-treat throat cancer.
A physician office visit is indicated if it lasts two weeks or more. I'm glad you're taking a pro-active approach to your health and i wish you luck.

I'm betting on reflux. I trust you don't have sleep apnea. A physician would have found cancer if it were present.

In brief: Chronic Sore Throat
Usually a chronic sore throat is due to a chronic irritation.
This could come from chronic mouth breathing, chronic acid reflux, allergies, or a sore that does not heal. Chronic sinus infections would be low on my list as possible causes of chronic sore throat. I would suspect chronic stuffy nose with mouth breathing, perhaps snoring may be contributing.
