When can I go back to work after having surgery for a ruptured appendix?

It depends. Every patient and every operation is a little bit different. Also every patient's job is different. I generally tell my patients that they can go back to work whenever they feel like it as long as there is no heavy lifting (more than 20 lbs) for 6 wks, mainly to reduce the risk of getting an incisional hernia. Also avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you are still taking pain meds.
