My mum has a painful left knee joint that radiates down her left leg. It has been occurring for 6 months. What could it be?

Painful left knee . Radiating pain from the joint line may be due to a tear in the meniscus with an associated parameniscal cyst. With increased swelling the surrounding sensory nerves may be affected. Additionally, a leaking cyst behind the knee (baker's or popliteal) can track down to the calf and cause radiating pain. Having pain in the front/ side of my left knee. When I lift my leg it feels like my knee joint is separated. I have to lift left leg with right leg?

Have you had any in- Jury to it, as from the sound of it, you might have a disrupted extensor tendon complex of the knee (either quads muscle/tendon or the patellar tendon or a fracture of the patella), whereby the leg feels "separated" as you described it. See an orthopod, for confirmation of the DX and treatment. Either surgery or cast treatment maybe needed. Good luck. Read more...

Two skin sores, on and off sore throat, pain behind left knee joint. Took 2 HIV tests 6 months ago and they were negative. Were the tests wrong?

See your doctor if your symptoms continue or you remain concerned, but no worries about HIV. Read more...
