In brief: Hard to say

The 1st fetal alcohol babies reported in the 1950's were to alcoholic mothers, many of whom died from their disease within a year. Since that time many studies have been done, but the subtile effect of alcohol consumption on the developing brain is hard to gauge.
We know alcohol breaks down to formaldehyde in the fetus & many cases of add are likely related. There is no definite safe level of intake

Why take the chance? Avoid alcohol because it might affect the baby. The mere possibility is enough to warrant abstaining.
