It can kill sperm or make their progress through the vagina more difficult.
If the bacteria get into the Fallopian tubes by whatever means, they can cause salpingitis which can in severe forms block the Fallopian tubes.

Bacterial vaginosis increases the risk of pelvic inflammatory disease, and PID can cause infertility from tube blockage.
But BV itself doesn't cause infertility. BV results from overgrowth of some types of normal vaginal bacteria. Why this happens isn't known. BV is not considered an STD, but is sexually transmitted between lesbian women who share vaginal fluids through fingers, sex toys, etc.
