In brief: Usually temporary

The lumbar spine usually has a lordotic curvature.
When the curve disappears it is straightened. Sometimes muscle spasm from trauma can cause straightening of spine. With physical therapy an alleviation of spasm or with muscle relaxants sometimes curvature returns.
